Lyndon Borrow joined DIBF as the youngest Board Member in July 2001, bringing with him over 18 years of basketball experiences as a national and state player, management and operations with both established and emerging sports organisations.

Lyndon was born Deaf on September 1972 in Melbourne. As an Australian, has built a solid background in sports management and Internet/multimedia technology, thanks largely to his past sporting achievements; selected to represent Australia from 1993 and participated to the 1997 - 18th Deaflympic Games in Denmark and representing the Victorian State team for the 1991, 1993, 1997 and 2003 Australian Deaf Games.

Prior to joining DIBF, Lyndon held various positions, including former Vice President of Deaf Sports Recreation Victoria, former Men's Section Secretary of Deaf Basketball Australia, ex-Committe of Victorian Deaf Basketball Association.

A recent highlight was the appointment to the Bidding Committee for the 2005 Melbourne Deaflympic Games. This entails visiting Davos, Switzerland in March 1999. Lyndon put toghether the multimedia presentation for the successful bid beating fiercely competative Slovakia.

Lyndon was also Operations Team Director, as the assistant to Chef de Mission for 2001 Australian Deaflympics Team for the 19th Deaflympic Games held in Rome, Italy.

With regards to his education, Lyndon was educated at private school, integrated with Deaf students - Yarra Valley Grammar, for 13 years and completed his Victorian Certificate of Education.

He went on to complete his traineeship at Swinburne University of Technology for a year specialising in Insurance business area as he works for his father's own business. Over the years he has build his on-hand experiences in his career and was given several opportunities to do further courses supported by his different employers. Whilst making his way to the top, it was not long before Lyndon has found his flair and talents for design in desktop publishing that has spurred him on to Graphic Designer as self-taught and conducted his own part-time business. At the same time, he was then employed by Australia's largest entertainment and casino complex in southern hemisphere - Crown Casino in graphics and desktop publishing department.

Remarkably - this was his turning point, based on his work skills developed over the years via computer and multimedia, this has enabled him to become one of reputable Web Designer / Developer, worked mainly in Internet industry. This has prompted him to return for further education at RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University) doing Diploma of Computering Science - Interactive Web and Internet Technology, in which he has completed.

Lyndon's previous occupation in Australia was Web Developer for an award winning ISP company - Pacific Internet in Melbourne, Australia. Lyndon is currently based in London, United Kingdom and currently employed as Webmaster for Red Bee Media (formerly BBC Broadcast). He now has nine years experience in the graphics and internet industry.

Lyndon enjoys dine-out and travelling around Europe with his Greek deaf wife - Georgia Dimopoulou and two deaf daughters who also loves competition sports, doing other adrenalin related sports, watch captioned movies, keeping fit with fast games such as basketball, and keeping abreast of all sports and sports management news.

Kjell Gunna - Secretary-General

Kjell was born Deaf in July 1947 and living since 1982 in Bromma, a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden, together with life-mate Gull-Britt and their daughter Elin.

Education accomplishments and profession:
1974 he graduated an M.S. in Physical Education at the Stockholm Sports University and started working as a sports teacher in different schools in Stockholm. Finished 1978 a one-year course in Special Education of Deaf and began working at the Manilla School of the Deaf in Stockholm same year.

1988 he quit his work as a sports teacher and began working as a Secretary General with the Swedish Deaf Sports Federation for which he was working until 2001.

Is currently leading a three-year project named "IT for deaf, 55+" in the Deaf House in Stockholm. The project is granted support from the State Social Ministry and was initiated and worked-out by himself.

Sports accomplishments:
Won Swedish Championships in basketball 11 times for hearing club Alvik in Stockholm. Three times he won silver. Played every year many games for his club in the Europe Cup for Champion teams. He was also selected to play 99 international games for the hearing Swedish National Basketball team.

Was twice appointed "Player of the Year" in Sweden.
Won honour as "Great Player", the 11th person to receive this such award in Swedish Basketball history.

Participated twice in hearing Olympic Qualification tournaments.
Participated three times in hearing European Championships playoff.

In 1972 he initiated and started up the Deaf Swedish National Basketball team in order for first participation in 1973 Deaf World Games. He participated in three DWG and won one silver in Bucharest, Romania 1977. Played altogether 21 games for the deaf team.

Initiated and started up the Deaf Women National team in 1983 and served as a coach and team leader for many years both on national and club level for both men and women teams.

  • CISS-Technical Director in Basketball since 1997.

  • Founder of Deaf International Basketball Federation 1998 and now its Secretary-General.

  • EDSO-Technical Delegate in Basketball 1991-1998.

  • In his Deaf Sports Club of Stockholm, IK Hephata, founded 1892, he serves as the Board Secretary since 1981.

  • Board Secretary of Stockholm Deaf Art Society 1994-1999.

  • Founder of the Stockholm Deaf Computer Society 1993, first Board Secretary and now its President.

  • Founder of Swedish Eastern-Regional Deaf Sports Organisation 1999 and now its Board Secretary.

Yaacov Keren - Treasurer

Yaacov was born Deaf in La Marsa in Tunisia in 1944. He then immigrated to Israel in 1955.

For many years he worked on agriculture and still own farm yard. From 1989 he established own printing business.

Started basketball at age of 20 years - late stage. Played at the Tel Aviv deaf sports club and won the Israel Deaf championships for 17 successive years.

  • National team captain since 1969 (Deaflympics – Belgrade, Yugoslavia)

  • In charge of Israel Deaf Basketball 1990-2004

  • President of Israel Deaf Sports Organisation 1993-1997.

  • Treasurer of Israel Deaf Sports Organisation 1997 to present.

  • EDSO Basketball TD from 2004.

  • DIBF management committee member from 2001 and elected to Central Board from February 2005.

Yue-Tong Zhu - Member at large

Yue Tong Zhu, hearing, was born 1959 in February in Tianjin in China. She lives in the same city and is married to Qunsheng Liu. Their daughter, Xiyang Liu is studying at grade nine and plays volleyball in her schools volleyball team.

Yue Tong is currently working as Associate Professor in the Tianjin Institute of Physical Education of China and Master Graduate tutor for basketball teaching and training. Earlier she was serving as the Director of the Sports Profession Synthetic Education section.

Exam and working career:
Yue Tong acquired 1983 the Pedagogy Bachelor degree at Tianjin Institute of Physical Education and thanks to her brilliant exam she was appointed teacher at the Institute directly thereafter. Now she has been teaching and done scientific research for about 20 years. Through hard working she has helped about 1000 students into graduation, now working as basketball coaches at Universities, middle schools and so on. She has taken part in National Social Science Fund lesson research, National Sports Bureaus research for many times and has won second class prize of Chinese teaching results and first class prize of Tianjin City teaching results. Yue Tong has also published 12 papers and joined to edit many books for example: "Observations and Guide", "Physical Training Methods", "Questions and Answers of Basketball Teaching and Training", "The Market Economy Term of the Athletics Management System and its operation Mechanisms in Thesis of the Athletics Present Condition Investigations" etc. Right now she is producing a "multimedia lesson piece of basketball rules and referee methods". She is also participating in the work of developing her professions declaration of school and planned emendation in teaching work.

Basketball career:
Yue Tong started training basketball at the age of 7. When she was 14 she entered Tianjin Junior Basketball Team and 1979 Yue Tong became student at Tianjin Institute of Physical Education and turned professional in Tianjin Basketball Team playing in China National B-league. She also played games over all China with her Institute team. Three times Yue Tong won Championships of Tianjin City A-league and ever serving as an assistant coach of the women basketball team of the Tianjin Institute of Physical Education.

Engagement in work of deaf and disabled:
Yue Tong has been serving as a referee and vice judge in basketball games in National Deaf Sports Games and vice chief judge of National Deaf Basketball games arranged in the sixth Chinese Disabled Sports Games.

Yue Tong attended the CISS Asia-Pacific Deaf Basketball seminar/coaches clinic in December 2002. She has also summoned up her experience of her engagement in deaf basketball games in writing a reform assumption of deaf basketball refereeing work which was handed over to China Sports Association of Disabled People. At the Institute she is also in charge of teaching and training deaf and disable people.

For the moment being Yue Tong is working hard with learning sign language the way deaf people use it. For this she is attending regular classes with sign language lessons besides meeting deaf people in her spare time to learn the way deaf people function and establish their life in society. She is very eager to work for improvement of the conditions for deaf in society and particularly basketball for the deaf in China and the world.
