CISS ASIA-Pacific Region Deaf
Basketball Development Seminar / Clinic
10th - 13th December 2002

For the first time in CISS basketball history an international seminar/coaches clinic carried out in basketball. Most probably this is also the first time anyhow in any deaf sport.

The seminar/coaches clinic was arranged in Beijing, China 10-13 December 2002 with participation of 6 deaf basketball countries from China 5, Japan 3, Chinese Taipei 3, Australia 3, New Zealand 2 and Hong Kong 3. Conductor of the seminar/clinic were Kjell Gunna, Sweden CISS-TD in Basketball, together with assistant Christian Boklund also Sweden.

FIBA has contributed with 75% of travel fares and 100% of accommodation expenses for all participants. The clinic is a co-operation arrangement between the CISS, the FIBA and the APDSC whose President Mr. Kuo-Tung Chow were sending out the invitations and made the practical arrangements. With this outcome of the first seminar/clinic there will be more seminars/clinics to be arranged in South-America, Africa and Europe in future.

These seminar/clinics are meant for deaf people interested in coaching deaf basketball teams, starting new teams and in development of deaf basketball in their respective country. Among other things they are also supposed to learn how to co-operate with their National Hearing Basketball Associations and thus obtain help in different ways to develop deaf basketball.
