The Australian men’s Deaflympic team have taken another victory in Melbourne, placing them first in their pool.

While two teams (Ukraine and USA) have the chance to jump them with games today, the Aussies are assured a place in the medal challenge.

The Australians defeated Japan last night in Round 5 of the competition, 95-84.

Sam Quinn is the superstar of the Australian team with 39 points, 22 rebounds, one steal, four blocks and four assists. Matthew Hayman was next best with 12 points and nine boards.

Fumiaki Yukimori was the stand out player for Japan with 22 points.

Men’s playoffs start tomorrow and Australia’s women’s team play New Zealand on Wednesday at 1pm in a consolation match. If they win that match they will play off for fifth position on Friday at 3pm.

The women’s semi finals will be played on Wednesday night at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre between the US, Ukraine, Sweden and Lithuania with the Gold, Silver and Bronze games to be played on Saturday afternoon.
