FIBA & VIPs

The FIBA Secretary General Mr Patrick Baumann has accepted a seat in the Honorary Committee as well as the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation President Ms Maureen Orchard and the President of FIBA Basketball Council for People with a Disability Mr Jan Berteling.

All three are expected to visit the Deaf World Championships arrangement in Guangzhou. Their visiting dates are not established yet but sometime during the spring we will be informed about this.

Also DIBF President Mr Jussi Raisio and ICSD President Ms Donalda Ammons are appointed to the Honorary Committee.

DIBF Congress 2007

Congress forms available to download (in MS Word document):

The Huatai Hotel:
The name of the hotel in which all participating countries will stay during the World Championships and in which the DIBF Congress is to be arranged is

Hotel Huatai
23 South Xianlie Road
510 060 Guangzhou
CHINA
Website: www.cbw.com/hotel/huatai/

The hotel is big and luxurious and in fact much better than what maybe is described at the website and they serve both oriental and western cuisines. You can order your wish of cuisine the day before.

Air China information

Much to our regret we have not obtained any information that Air China will provide the World Championships participants with cheaper flights. You are herewith requested to find out the best and most suitable flights for your self.

Next DIBF World Championships newsletter is scheduled to mid November. Besides the normal information with game schedule we hopefully can submit the report from DIBF CB members Mr Lyndon Borrow and Mr Yaacov Keren from their inspection tour in June.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact DIBF Secretary General.

Important information about DIBF membership

The DIBF understands from different sources that some countries have misunderstood the Category 1 membership fee 75 USD/year.

Please, understand that this fee is quite voluntary and is not obligatory for participation in World Championships. The fee is to be regarded a supportive fee to the DIBF administration as the economical support from the FIBA only is meant for development activities, clinics and seminars.

With the supportive fee (Category 1 membership) paid for 2006 and 2007 your country is entitled to fully participate in the DIBF Congress with voting rights, speaking and proposal rights, rights to be elected to a seat in DIBF Central Board and so on. Without this fee only limited speaking rights are allowed. Your voluntary contribution to the DIBF administration is highly appreciated.

Referees in World Championships 2007 in Guangzhou, China

Each participating country is entitled to bring along two referees, either deaf or hearing, of very high standard (second or highest league, or FIBA level) to the World Championships 2007 in China. The arrangers cover local transports, full accommodation and provision while the referees themselves or their Deaf Sports Federations must cover the travel to China. You can ask your National Basketball Federation for economical support. It is highly recommendably that deaf referees for World Championships first attend the clinic/seminar in Stockholm in March, see home page, to become familiar with international administration of basketball games and to obtain a DIBF Referee License. New and more information later (Previous information to be disregarded).
