BOTSWANA – DIBF team (Jurgen Endress, DIBF World Secretary General, Dario Pignataro, DIBF Central Board Member, Tom Okiki Ndede, DIBF Africa Representative and Paolo Aisa, DIBF Media) arrived in Gaborone, Botswana safety on 12 April 2016, and was received at the airport by Shirley Keoagile, President, Botswana Deaf Sports Federation (BDSF) and Japhet Moyo Secretary General, BDSF.

President, Botswana Basketball Association met DIBF team together with Shirley and Japhet at Cresta President Hotel. In the meeting, we discussed various issues on how BBA can help BDSF in promoting deaf basketball in teams of technical support including providing coaching services to to identify, develop and nurture emerging talent of deaf basketball players in Botswana. This will help deaf basketball players in Botswana to prepare adequately for future international competitions, World Deaf Basketball Championships and Deaflympics Basketball Tournaments.

On 13 April 2016, clinic and seminar were organized effectively at University of Botswana Sports ground. 18 players and 12 leaders attended clinic and seminar respectively. Deaf students from Ramotswa Secondary School and Maun Senior School. DIBF World Secretary General Jurgen Endress presented Leadership Seminar while Dario Pignataro conducted training clinic. Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) provided transport for DIBF team throughout the event. Botswana Television (BTV) team also came to interview DIBF team and Shirley. Clinic and seminar were boadcasted in BTV. The people of Botswana were very happy to see the broadcasting of Deaf sports event BTV for the first time in history. This has really opened eyes to the general public of Botswana to understand the capability of Deaf sportsmen and women. With this unique broadcasting, the government and corporate institutions in Botswana will support promoting the development of Deaf sports and other recreational activities in Botswana. The event ended well on 15 April 2016.

Sports Minister informed Shirley that he appreciates DIBF for this notable project in Botswana and and requests us to continue the same in future. They are looking forward to working with DIBF to promote deaf basketball in Botswana. Botswana National Sports Councils (BNSC) plans to form steering committee on 21 April 2016 to come up with various issues on how to promote Deaf Basketball in Botswana and other relevant recreation activities.

On 16 April 2016, DIBF team left Gaborone, Botswana for Johannesburg, South Africa.
