Sanction fee:
Due to financial crisis in Europe, DIBF has wavered the sanction fee. This means there will be no fee for each players and officials attending to this U20 Championships.
Team entry fee:
Likewise due to financial crisis, DIBF has reduced the team entry fee by 50% - $75 USD per team and this can be paid upon arrival at Lublin, Poland. This is due to our obligations towards arrangers.

Form for players list including birth date and ICSD audiogram check must be completed and sent in no later than 27 March - 27/03/2009 - Download for Players list form.

Hotel / Accommodation reservation:
The hotel / accommodation reservation must be made no later than 22 April - 22/04/2009. The cost of accommodation is minimum of $60 USD per person for 3 Star Hotel Victoria and minimum of $30 USD per person for Deaf Boarding House. Download here for reservation form.

DIBF announces that Polish Deaf Sports Federation will arrange the 2nd DIBF U20 European Championships
Participation fee:
$60-65 USD per person / per night, maximally $75 USD per person / per night. The participating fee depends on number of participating countries: The more countries the cheaper. The participation fee include accommodation in double-rooms in 3-4 star hotel, breakfast and lunch/dinner, local transports in Lublin and farewell party. You only need to add your travel to Lublin.
Gender and age limits:
Boys and girls, born during 1988 or later.
Preliminary entry with entry fee:
1 January 2009. Forms to be sent out shortly. Preliminary entry fee $150 USD per team to be paid according to prel. entry form to later be sent out. Not to be paid back in case of withdrawal.
Definitive entry:
1 March 2009. Forms to be sent out shortly
You are most welcome with entry to these Championships. The DIBF is well aware of that Deaflympic Games are in September later this year, but nevertheless it should be easy for you to obtain more money for youth activities. The Governments really like and support youth activities. Please, try this way. |

DIBF Central Board is having annual Central Board meeting to
be held in Palermo, Italy - the same location as the 2011 DIBF World
Deaf Basketball Championships.
DIBF Central Board will have special arrangements with FISS / LIPS - Italian Deaf Sports Federation and Italian Deaf Basketball Federation to launch a new logo for the 2011 DIBF World Deaf Basketball Championships, to held a press conference, re-visit basketball venues and hotels, meeting with organisers of 2011 WDBC as well as key people including FIBA representatives. The Gehörlosen-Turn und Sportverein Frankfurt am Main 1908 e.V. invites to all men and women of Germany and European deaf clubs to the International Basketball Tournament, on Saturday 15th November 2008, to celebrate their 100th year anniversary.

The 1st African Deaf Basketball Championships in conjunction with the FIBA, Kenya Deaf Sports Association and Confederation of African Deaf Sports, has been postponed due to low team entry, recent civil tension among African countries and world economics crisis. DIBF will announce in early 2009 with new dates.

International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) will be holding an Extraordinary Congress to be held in Bratislava, Slovakia - just day after the conclusion of EDSO Congress. The President of DIBF - Lyndon Borrow will be officially attending at the expense of DIBF.
The ICSD Extraordinary Congress will be mainly to converse about the Deaf Sports Reform on revised draft from the Deaf Sports Reform Symposium held in Zagreb, Croatia in July 2007. The aims is to restructure the ICSD into International Deaflympic Committee (IDC) and to form the Deaflympic Branch, World Sports Branch and Youth Sports Branch in order to increase the standard of deaf sports around the world.

The open meeting was held at 6pm on Wednesday 25 June 2008 at conference room of Center Hotel MainFranken in Bamberg, Germany during the free day of European Deaf Basketball Championships. This was an opportunity for European basketball countries to get together to discuss about establishing a provisional zone organisation for the deaf basketball of Europe in order to focus the core of European deaf basketball and lifting the standards.
There were a number of European member countries and observers attended and the meeting was led by Secretary General – Kjell Gunna. A lengthy discussions and views exchanged were made by members. It was decided that to possibly elect and establish a provisional executive committee consisting of President, Treasurer and Secretary General in 2009 at DIBF Conference during the 21st Deaflympic Games in Taiwan. Eventually to be made official during the DIBF Congress during the 2011 DIBF World Deaf Basketball Championship in Italy.
DIBF Central Board will continue to establish other three regional zones – firstly DIBF Africa Zone in end of October 2008 during the 1st DIBF African Deaf Basketball Championships. The DIBF Asia-Pacific and DIBF Americas zones will follow within the next two years.
The formation of DIBF Zones will ensure a good pace, growth and lifting the standards of deaf basketball, deaf referees and coaches around the world. |

The President of the Silent Warriors Deaf basketball club, Goran Cehic and his fellow members and associates were proud to have hosted the deaf basketball club tournament for Europe. They felt that there are several clubs of players who may have missed the spot for the national deaf team and/or the team were not able to go to the European Deaf Basketball championships or the Deaflympic Games. This give the clubs and players the opportunity to continue playing and keep their basketball going by participating in this clubs tournament.

Two men basketball clubs for the deaf - Hrvatska and Ljubljana have played a friendly game in Zagreb, Croatia on 19 April 2008. Ljubljana, as better known as 'Slovenia deaf basketball team' won the game by 17 points. The game was a valuable experience and learning curve for the new Croatian deaf basketball players. This game would have not been made possible without the hard work of Goran Cehic, President of the Silent Warriors Deaf basketball club and his local associates in Zagreb. Goran has been helping several Croatian deaf basketball players to form, to experience and to pursue their dream.

On behalf of DIBF Central Board and members, with our sorrow to inform that Jerald M. Jordan, the 5th president of International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (CISS/ICSD/Deaflympics) between 1971 to 1995, has passed away peacefully on Wednesday 26th March, 2008 at home in Maryland , USA.
Jerald has been an extraordinary leader and devotee to CISS/ICSD; it will be a big loss to the Deaf sporting world whom he loves. Nevertheless he would desire for everyone in Deaf sports to continue and prosper.
We wish to express our deepest condolences to his wife Shirley, the family and the CISS/ICSD/Deaflympics.

Arizona Desert Fire /Gallaudet’s basketball camp is a one-week experience designed for deaf and hard-of-hearing youth ages 10-18. The main focus of instruction is set with the development of playing skills and an overall improvement of the understanding of basketball in mind.
One of Camp Directors - Coaches - David Hamilton has been involved in basketball for more than 20 years. He is a five-time gold medalist with the men’s Deaflympics basketball team, and earned his first gold as a coach at the 2005 Games in Australia.

 The first, in all deaf sports history at all, deaf basketball referee clinic in Stockholm, Sweden gathered a sum of 11 deaf referees from Europe, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and USA and was a real hit. The Deaf International Basketball Federation, DIBF, called for this clinic and arranged it together with Stockholm Basketball Association and FIBA. The DIBF is planning to arrange the first International Deaf Youth Basketball Camp in Africa to be arranged in Nairobi, Kenya. All details are not clear yet but participation with five girls and five boys of age 14 - 18 year plus 2 leaders from each country participated in the clinic/seminar in February 2007 is expected. Altogether the DIBF count of about 50-60 participants. The Camp will be arranged after FIBA model "Basketball Without Borders" and in same style like in Vilnius, Lithuania June 2005. |

 In co-operation with the Lithuania Deaf Sports Federation and with economical contribution from the FIBA, the Deaf International Basketball Federation arranged an International Deaf Youth Basketball Camp in Vilnius, Lithuania 21-26 June 2005.
