From 29–31 August 2025, the DIBF Youth Clinic took place in Cochabamba, Bolivia, bringing together 24 young campers for three days of basketball, learning, and community.
The program kicked off with DIBF Director Dario Pignataro presenting the history, projects, and future initiatives of the International Basketball Federation of the Deaf. The participants, curious and eager to learn, then dove into their first basketball sessions led by Dario Pignataro and Jose Alvarado, focusing on the fundamentals of the game.
On the second day, the young athletes built on their skills with exercises in dribbling, passing, shooting technique, and teamwork. Progress was already visible as their confidence and precision grew. That same day, DIBF Secretary General James DeStefano arrived in Cochabamba, joining the coaching team and bringing his experience and encouragement to the campers. The day closed with a spirited group photo in new FIBA Foundation Basketball For Good shirts, followed by a friendly game.

The final day was filled with energy, smiles, and teamwork. A practice match introduced a unique challenge — playing without dribbling — which encouraged communication and collaboration. The session concluded with free throw practice, where cheers and encouragement echoed across the court.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was when James DeStefano and Dario Pignataro presented each participant with a certificate of participation and special gifts — including small foam balls and their very own basketball. The joy in the room was unforgettable, as campers celebrated both their achievements and the friendships they had built.
Beyond the technical training, the clinic emphasized inclusivity and connection through sign language, which created a truly welcoming atmosphere.
The DIBF extends heartfelt thanks to the Federation of Deaf Sports of Bolivia for their outstanding organization and warm hospitality, and to all the parents for entrusting us with their children.
The Cochabamba Youth Clinic was not just about basketball — it was about growth, inclusion, and joy. We leave Bolivia with gratitude and pride, knowing that these young players are ready to keep building on the skills and friendships they discovered here.
