DIBF U21 WOLRD DEAF BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The DIBF U21 World Deaf Basketball Championships, organized by the Deaf International Basketball Federation (DIBF), serves as the premier global competition for young deaf basketball players under the age of 21. The tournament was first held in 2010 in Lublin, Poland, marking the beginning of an international platform for emerging deaf athletes. In this inaugural edition, the United States dominated both divisions, capturing gold in the men’s and women’s tournaments. Lithuania claimed silver in both, while Venezuela took bronze in the men’s division and Russia in the women’s.

The second edition took place in 2014 in Samsun, Turkey, where the United States once again proved its strength by securing gold medals in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The Turkish teams earned silver on home soil, while Israel (men) and Lithuania (women) finished with bronze medals. Four years later, the 2018 U21 World Deaf Basketball Championships were hosted in Washington, D.C., USA, where the American teams continued their dominant streak, achieving another double victory. The Japanese teams performed impressively, taking silver in both divisions, while Spain and Italy captured the men’s and women’s bronze medals respectively.

After a six-year gap, the 2024 U21 World Deaf Basketball Championships were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, marking the tournament’s debut in South America. The United States extended its historic dominance, winning gold once again in both categories. In the men’s division, Dominican Republic earned silver and Ukraine secured bronze.

The championship continues to grow as a vital event that showcases young talent and strengthens international unity within the deaf basketball community, with the next edition will host in Lublin, Poland on 5 - 13 June 2026.
