“Caitlin Johnson of Gold Coast, state of Queensland in Australia, recently became the 2nd Deaf referee to work at high level in Australia sports. It has been more than 30 years since there had been another Deaf referee at such a level.
Caitlin grew up with a passion for basketball. She played for Australia at the 2007 World Deaf Basketball Championships as well as the 2009 Deaflympics. After Taipei (Deaflympics), Caitlin decided to become a referee. Her hard work and passion have paid off because she is now refereeing in professional development league in Queensland.
Caitlin is part of a growing trend of Deaf referees in basketball as well as other sports.”
