TURKEY – On behalf of the Deaf International Basketball Federation (DIBF) Central Board, the Secretary General and Site Inspector, Mr Jürgen Endress is pleased to have compiled this report for the site inspection of the 2023 World Deaf Basketball Championships (2023 WDBC) in Ankara, Turkey from 9 to 13 November 2020.
The Turkish Deaf Sports Federation (TDSF) applied for the 2023 World Deaf Basketball Championships for Men and Women with great interest and motivation, the other candidacy city is Heraklion, Greece that was inspected in last month October.
The President of the TDSF, Mr Yakup Umit Kihtir with the Vice President, Mr Serhat Öztürk, the Secretary General, Mr Serhat Yigmatepe, the Board Member, Mr Ali Fidan and Mr Bars Bulut, the International Relations of the TDSF and Ms Berrak Firat, the International Sign Interpreter welcomed me at the Ankara Airport and gave me an official tour with Mr Soner Baskaya, the Branch Manager of Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports to inspect several basketball and training venues, hotel accommodation, meeting room facilities and introduced us to many important people for inspection dialogues.
The Director of Ankara Provincial Youth and Sports Directorate, Mr Mustafa Celik cleared to the international and Turkish delegations: “We fully and strongly support their candidature application on behalf of Turkey and will provide all facilities for the preparation of the competition fields and organisation. Ankara has many experiences to host the big events and I am sure that this 2023 World Deaf Basketball Championships will be honoured to Ankara and topped with absolute organisational and competitive success.”
From all sides there was great supports, encouragements and approvals for the organisation of the 2023 World Deaf Basketball Championships, from financial supports, transportation, officials, referees to the high-level sports facilities.
The TDSF informed and explained us how to create the Organising Committee and his structure that still be not official. The experiences there are highly valued that have successfully organised many international tournaments, see for example the World Deaf Football Championships, the World Youth Deaf Basketball Championships, the European Deaf Basketball Championships, the FIBA World Championship in recent years. For financial budget they will work out and introduce us soon.
We are confident that with all your support, Turkey will be successful for this World Deaf Basketball Championships.
After finished both inspections in Heraklion, Greece und Ankara, Turkey the Central Board of Deaf International Basketball Federation will officially announce the host city soon.
